A Revolution In Underground Mapping Using Sirovision®

CSIRO's Stereo Camera Unit is a self contained unit with an inbuilt power supply, lighting system and laser guidance system.

The twin cameras are Nikon D200 10.2 megapixel Digital SLR's linked to a Nikon SB800 Speedlight Flash, all simultaneously activated by a one touch shutter release button.

The unit is portable and designed to be operated by one person, enabling them to capture stereo images of an underground drive in only a few minutes. The high level of automation reduces time and cost of mapping.

The system has been extensively and successfully trialled at Newcrest's Telfer underground mine and as part of the AMIRA Project 788 in the N3500 mine (XStrata, Mt Isa), Raleigh mine (Placer Dome, Kalgoorlie) and at Rio Tinto's Northparkes mine.

Today, amongst many others, it is used by Rio Tinto, BHP, Newcrest, Xstrata and De Beers mines all over the world to improve mine planning processes.

In cooperation with mining companies, the implementation of underground mapping systems can be tailored to a mining operations needs.
